The High Priestly Prayer

1 Jesus spoke these things; and ^alifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; ^bglorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, 2 even as ^cYou gave Him authority over all flesh, that ^dto ^{▼▼ Lit everything that You have given Him, to them He may}all whom You have given Him, ^fHe may give eternal life. 3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, ^gthe only true God, and Jesus Christ whom ^hYou have sent. 4 ⁱ“I glorified You on the earth, ^{▼▼ Or by accomplishing
,} ^khaving accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 “Now, Father, ^lglorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had ^mwith You before the world was.

6 ⁿ“I have manifested Your name to the men whom ^oYou gave Me out of the world; they were ^pYours and You gave them to Me, and they have ^qkept Your word. 7 “Now they have come to know that everything You have given Me is from You; 8 for ^rthe words which You gave Me ^sI have given to them; and they received them and truly understood that ^tI came forth from You, and they believed that ^uYou sent Me. 9 ^v“I ask on their behalf; ^wI do not ask on behalf of the world, but of those whom ^xYou have given Me; for ^ythey are Yours; 10 and ^zall things that are Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine; and I have been glorified in them. 11 “I am no longer in the world; and yet ^aathey themselves are in the world, and ^abI come to You. ^acHoly Father, keep them in Your name, the name ^adwhich You have given Me, that ^aethey may be one even as We are. 12 “While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name ^afwhich You have given Me; and I guarded them and ^agnot one of them perished but ^ahthe ^{▼▼ Heb idiom for one destined to perish}son of perdition, so that the ^ajScripture would be fulfilled.

The Disciples in the World

13 “But now ^akI come to You; and ^althese things I speak in the world so that they may have My ^amjoy made full in themselves. 14 “I have given them Your word; and ^anthe world has hated them, because ^aothey are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 15 “I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them ^{▼▼ Or out of the power of}from ^{▼▼ Or evil
,} ^arthe evil one. 16 ^as“They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17 ^at“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth. 18 “As ^auYou sent Me into the world, ^avI also have sent them into the world. 19 “For their sakes I ^awsanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be ^axsanctified ^ayin truth.

20 “I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; ^azeven as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, ^baso that the world may ^{▼▼ Gr tense indicates continually believe}believe that ^bcYou sent Me.

Their Future Glory

22 “The ^bdglory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 ^beI in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected ^{▼▼ Lit into one}in unity, so that the world may ^{▼▼ Gr tense indicates continually know}know that ^bhYou sent Me, and ^biloved them, even as You have loved Me. 24 “Father, I desire that ^bjthey also, whom You have given Me, ^bkbe with Me where I am, so that they may see My ^blglory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before ^bmthe foundation of the world.

25 “O ^bnrighteous Father, ^{▼▼ Lit even the world}although ^bpthe world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that ^bqYou sent Me; 26 and ^brI have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that ^bsthe love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
